Ban on Inward Processing Regime in Sugar Imports: New Regulation for GTIP 1701
27 Mayıs 2025Sugar Imports under Inward Processing Regime Suspended: New Practice for GTIP 1701
According to the announcement shared by the Aegean Exporters’ Association (EİB), with the approval of the Ministry of Trade dated 23 May 2025, imports of sugar under tariff code 1701 will no longer be permitted within the scope of the Inward Processing Regime (IPR/DİR). The new regulation prioritizes meeting sugar demand from domestic sources.
Key Points of the Regulation:
- Suspension: Imports of sugar under GTIP 1701 are prohibited under DİR.
- Exception: For inward processing certificates already issued, if transport documents were prepared and shipments loaded on or before 23 May 2025, import requests will still be evaluated and finalized by the Directorate General of Exports.
- Impact: Companies planning sugar imports under DİR must reassess their processes. The shipment date now becomes critical, and complete documentation will be essential for evaluation.
This change highlights the importance for importers to carefully review existing permits and logistics schedules to avoid compliance risks.
